Meme Comment Archive
The comments on the Memes page got too long... so they are now archived here.
Eric — 09 May 2007, 18:23
yeah, there are ways to paginate the comments -- or we can more them to a "memes comments archive" page -- or we can delete the ones that are no longer relavant. I'm up for whatever.
Dave — 09 May 2007, 14:52
Is there a way we can summarize or clean up the comment box on this page? It is an epic tome.
And yes, I know I'm adding to it by posting this :)
Evang1109 — 02 May 2007, 15:57
There, I finished Satan and Pokemon, and touched up Hitler and Jesus's pages with pictures.
Evang1109 — 02 May 2007, 14:05
Well, it is kind of a repeat considering that game is also on the favorites, but hey :P And Oprah is probably a good one, Ragnell. I'll add her later.
Eric — 02 May 2007, 10:12
Evang - nice work! Good choice of picture for the darth vader page too.
Ragnell — 02 May 2007, 02:07
Does Oprah count? All black women become Oprah at some moment in the game.
Evang1109 — 02 May 2007, 00:22
Alright, I touched up the page on the Pope and did Darth Vader's, and Pokemon and Satan are still tentative. And before I sleep, I'd like to make to anyone with spare time--add an example picture and comment box for consistency to any pages lacking them. Also, we should probably determine which spelling of Ban Ki-Moon gets the most hits when searched, as the 5 games are not really cutting the standards. :P
Evang1109 — 01 May 2007, 23:22
I added a few to the bottom to tentatively add. I'll get around to them when I have a chance. If someone objects to having the giant clod of red down there, then just remove it, I thought it'd be handy to have that down there for people to work on is all. And whoever did the Pope, thanks--it's not much, but any start is good.
Eric — 01 May 2007, 22:49
for that matter - so does darth vader... actually, star wars references are pretty common in general :-)
Tymaporer — 01 May 2007, 16:31
Obi-Wan Kenobi is in a lot of games, at least as a mention or a parody. It's hard to count how many, because his name comes in many different forms, but it seems like quite a few.
Evang1109 — 01 May 2007, 13:58
Schroedinger has been showing up a lot too. I need to be paying more attention to the Wiki :-[ I haven't had much spare time lately but by this weekend I plan to add some pages for the last few mentioned.
Dave — 25 April 2007, 18:17
There are also 57 games now in the archive with the Pope in them. I'm not sure why he's been coming up so much lately.
Evang1109 — 21 April 2007, 01:26
I think another good qualifier would be Ash Ketchum. He's been showing up often lately (though mostly at my own hands XD).
jchaulf — 20 April 2007, 18:38
I've been seeing Schroedinger's cat in a couple of games; think it qualifies?
Evang1109 — 15 April 2007, 23:30
I believe he's only got three listed, and one other one where he's just in a picture...I mean, I guess if Ban Ki Moon can get up there with 5 (despite the fact that a lot of his appearances have a dash between either parts of his name) GPW can get up there with four, maybe...but ehh.
Krakow Sam — 13 April 2007, 06:37
I've noticed Geriatric Phoenix Wright in a few games now, seemingly spontaneously.
Evang1109 — 10 April 2007, 15:36
Geez, they came back again. I'll keep editing it out whenever I notice it, but perhaps we should get rid of the comment box for a bit? I think it should be possible to do that without erasing what comments are already left.
Eric — 09 April 2007, 10:32
i hate spam :-(
Evang1109 — 06 April 2007, 16:28
My oh my, is it a good thing you can delete comments via edits. *points to page history*
Savethemooses — 27 March 2007, 18:19
I have included Scissors King in two of my recent pictures. Can we update this?
Evang1109 — 27 March 2007, 16:40
I'd believe it if there was a huge spike.
Jinjo — 27 March 2007, 16:30
I updated the game count. It seems like "TheSentenceGame" had a large jump in games. Were we not counting some or has it just spiked?
Evang1109 — 22 March 2007, 14:40
I'd like to request of the members to help out and try and put a good picture on every page, as well as link to either the search results for the character's games, some specific examples or even perhaps both. I'd like to see someone else's meme related favorites rather than all the pages just being of my own, so that's why I haven't just gone and done them all :P
Eric — 20 March 2007, 11:49
looks good - thanks Evang!
Evang1109 — 19 March 2007, 21:52
Okay, it's done now--just one last comment, the results for "Scissor King" and "Scissors King" were added together; this likely results in some overlapping but it's the best I can do.
Evang1109 — 19 March 2007, 21:47
Guys, I'm just going to note that Martini Turtle is going to be listed as 11 games on the list because his first appearance had him called "Martini-turtle", so it doesn't show up with the rest due to the hyphen. If there's any objections to that, tell me :-[
Evang1109 — 19 March 2007, 20:48
Yeah, I didn't think about it until now, but DEFINITELY. He is definitely a suitable fad. I support that.
Also, sometime soon I'll try and get around to updating the game count...Maybe tonight but it needs to be done by someone. Although maybe I should wait for Pac-Man's page to go up, buuuuut either way
Eric — 19 March 2007, 18:53
Definitely!
Jinjo — 19 March 2007, 15:31
I submit that, suggesting that Pac-man be added. I don't want to add it if people think it doesn't count though
Evang1109 — 11 March 2007, 15:33
I was going to try to do it last night but something came up. And I should be homeworking right now :-[ But I definitely agree.
bean — 11 March 2007, 13:03
I think its time to update the game count.
Evang1109 — 10 March 2007, 15:53
I think we ought to start working on Martini Turtle's page. I think he's got enoug now.
bean — 09 March 2007, 20:22
I added them in the page, yes. Jesusification may need to be added if it catches on after Optimus underwent the process.
splatchtrock — 08 March 2007, 20:05
Does the Jesus count include his various incarnations (Spider-jesus &c)?
Evang1109 — 05 March 2007, 19:22
And by Jake, I mean the retarded guy with the "I am Jake" shirt who seems to be recurring in any parody picture of Jake.
Evang1109 — 05 March 2007, 19:21
I was gonna suggest it as Jake being a meme before all this, but I didn't because it would've encouraged him.
Jake Livingston. What kind of name is that?
bean — 05 March 2007, 19:10
Well, less of a meme and more a part of our shared history, but I think it has a place.
The same calls for what I have dubbed "troll-rush 2007". Stay in your homes, nobody is safe.
Krakow Sam — 05 March 2007, 19:03
I don't think it qualifies as a meme. Memes usually have to propogate themselves by being so awesome they trick people into their service. This is just the work of one sweaty guy with no friends and a high speed internet connection sitting in his mother's basement jerking off to pictures of purple members he drew in paint... Or so I would imagine.
bean — 05 March 2007, 17:38
I honestly think the "I Am Jake" picture belongs as an example of a truly evil and distasteful meme.
elzaban — 04 March 2007, 05:10
Yeah, most general things tend to be exemplified by some specific figure. Jedi tend to come down to either Darth Vader or Yoda. Nazis, evil, etc, tend to come down to Hitler. Transformers always end up as Optimus Prime (even if they start out as Soundwave. Muppets will likely give you Kermit, fish give Ghost Shark.
Luminar — 04 March 2007, 01:06
I think Yoda and Hitler cover those two, respectivley..
birq — 03 March 2007, 22:10
What about more general memes (maybe themes, I guess) like Jedis or Nazis? They seem to have pretty good staying power.
Evang1109 — 01 March 2007, 21:01
I'd say give it a bit more time so he gets a bit more prolific.
Yeah, he does seem a bit forced but I have a good sentence in mind for him that I hope makes it a little more faddish...but that is probably also gonna end up seeming forced :P
Luminar — 01 March 2007, 18:37
Martini Turtle seems a little on the forced side, but other than that I guess it's cool.
bean — 01 March 2007, 13:03
If he lasts another week, nobody will have any problem with a martini turtle page. I like him, personally.
Krakow Sam — 01 March 2007, 09:32
How long until Martini Turtle qualifies as a meme? I must have got about three games recently with him in them.
Eric — 27 February 2007, 13:53
Yeah, I guess that's the down side to making the picture filename generic (they used to be whatever the user named it + an identifier).
elzaban — 26 February 2007, 13:09
Yeah, I just noticed the new search feature. He's definitely in there a lot. And, yeah, Jesus and the Green guys need some love, too. Although I'll note that there are certainly some games in which a given character appears in the pictures but not in any of the sentences, so there'll likely always be a few games that just searching won't turn up.
Eric — 26 February 2007, 08:59
I don't know - I definitely have seen the "monopoly man" quite a bit. bean, you're right about all of those -- definitely worth adding.
bean — 25 February 2007, 20:16
Jesus, Kermit, Yoda, Cthulhu, and a lone Optimus have incredible staying power and a library of games.
Evang1109 — 25 February 2007, 14:36
It was an older one, and I don't know if it really stuck in the more "solid" players's heads. I just remember when I first came around here some time ago Monopoly always showed up so it stuck in my head as a "meme" of sorts. Though I guess you're right about the necessity of a character.
elzaban — 25 February 2007, 14:22
I'd estimate that for a proper meme you need a) a character, and b) at least ~10 games. I don't quite know how monopoly would fit there.
Evang1109 — 25 February 2007, 14:05
I am a liiiittle confused about how to work with this Wiki, but Monopoly deserves to be on the memes list.
elzaban — 25 February 2007, 13:38
It helps that he was pulled off in a sufficiently high-brow manner. This (warning, large image file) was the only other time I've seen him used in a similar manner, and the brow was pretty low.
Eric — 25 February 2007, 13:29
I was definitely a fan of the Kofi meme -- mostly because it's so random and strangely high-brow for an online game:-)
